Hafa Adai Manaina-hu yan Mane'lu-hu,
In April of next year, a momentous event for Chamorros will take place at the Sons and Daughters of Guam Club in San Diego. Myself along with several other Chamorros are holding a Chamorro titled, Famoksaiyan: Decolonizing Chamorro Histories, Identities and Futures. We are hoping that through an event such as this, young Chamorros who are in college and graduate school will be able to share their work, their research and also their concerns. We hope that the event will provide an opportunity for Chamorros scattered around the country to network, organize and forge vital connections to our islands and our communities.
This conference is being organized "taya' salape," meaning a minimum amount of cost involved. Because of this we have little funds to provide assistance for students who plan to attend. We are seeking help from Chamorro social clubs throughout the United States to see if funds can be raised to help fly out and lodge students in San Diego. Any amount would be appreciated and the gineftao (generosity) of your group would be enthusiastically noted in the conference proceedings.
If your organization is interested in assisting this project, whether through monetary or other means, please contact me at chamorro_guahan hotmail.com. If you have any questions as to the conference itself you can contact the organizer Michael Lujan Bevacqua at mlbasquiat hotmail.com.
Si Yu'os Ma'åse.
