I’D like to begin this
letter by publicly thanking the many people who wrote or personally
expressed to me their outrage over Don Farrell’s personal attacks. Please
know how much your sentiments and support mean to me, my siblings and my
mother. As to Don Farrell, your decision to use my father’s memory
against me in your desperate attempt to resuscitate Azmar’s dead
application is callous and despicable. I find it unbelievable that you’re
such an expert authority on my father’s development plans for Pagan, yet
he didn’t even merit a small footnote in your own CNMI history book.
Perhaps it’s just as well, knowing what I know now about how easily you
will change the truth, and alter history, to fit your own agenda. I
suppose among your cadre of “experts” on my father’s dreams is the very
man responsible for killing my father’s dreams — former Rep. Pedro Castro.
Did he neglect to tell you what really happened the night of my father’s
assassination? I’m sure he omitted the part where his poor battered wife
ran to our house seeking refuge from her husband. Did he say how my father
spent the last few hours of his life protecting her when Pedro sent the
gunman demanding that my father surrender Pedro’s wife to him? I suppose
he also neglected to mention that my mother also received a shotgun blast
to her head, and struggled to remain conscious as she leaned on my
five-year-old sister’s shoulders to walk to my uncle’s house to summon
help. Where in your “history” is the part where my 12-year-old
brother’s pleas for the gunman to stop shooting was answered with a
shotgun blast to his shoulder? Or how, but for the Grace of God, my
seven-month-old baby brother and I would have perished and not survived
our ordeal as hostages. And all my father’s efforts were for nothing, Mr.
Farrell, as I saw with my own eyes the gunman hand Pedro’s wife over to
Pedro where he was hiding in a secluded area. Yes, thanks to Pedro
Castro, Ken Moore’s “respected” friend and loyal Azmar lobbyist, we not
only lost our father and sole support, but we also lost our home and the
simple lifestyle we once lived on Pagan as my family was evacuated to
Saipan the day after the shootings.
