So if anyone knows the website for Sui's Jewelry or Siu's Jewelry, (i forgot how to spell it), can you please email the address for me. Thanks.

Hafa Adai! People of Guam,
Just want to say that the Bone Marrow "Drive for Justice" Taitague went great for the last 3 days at the Guam Premier Outlet. We had over 3,000+ donors and a lot of volunteers that participated in many ways. We even had little children participating in other ways since they are too young to register. It was an overwhelming experience and I hope that Justice finds her match real soon. The drive is for Justice and for all those who may be in need. We still need YOU, where ever you may be, to register because you may be Justice's match or one of your loved ones' match. Please, take a few minutes of you time to register at the nearest Bone Marrow Registry anywhere in the world. www. marrow.org This is a chance to help save another's life.

This is interesting to me as my family lived on Guam in the mid 50's. My mom graduated from High school on Guam and was voted Miss Statesider. Yes, I know we aren't really islanders, but she taught me to love all people and we are of such diverse ancestry that we would be foolish to not care for everyone. I am looking for Maurice or "Frenchy" Leblanc. If anyone knows of his whereabouts or can tell me what has happened to him I would appreciate it. Thanks.

Hafa Adai People!
Just finished reading my Coconut Village announcement/email about the latest update of damage and recovery attempts after typhoon Pongsong. I left Guam almost 50 years ago but still have strong ties to family/friends back there. I could go into my feelings about Guam's status with the U.S. but that's not what this note is about. What I'm asking is that you contact your local Federal and State government reps and ask them to support/introduce SOMETHING that will help Guam develop infrastructure to better survive/recover from typhoons. Underground utilities would be GREAT but costly. If all of the repair work that has been done over the years were added up it would most likely have paid for this type of development by now. What I feel the island keeps getting is "just enough" to fix what's damaged but nothing to improve for the future and our people suffer. I'm asking for your help with your government representatives because Guam has only 1 representative that has little to no voting power and needs other "homeland" representatives for support. Our people are scattered throughout the U.S. so we should be able to make our voices heard in a lot of places. Please do what you can to write to your government representative and ask them to introduce/support measures that will quicken the pace of recovery on Guam and provide for future protection. They didn't waste any time when Andrew hit Florida a few years ago...but then that's an official state isn't it?

Buenas yan Hafa Adai todos to all the Chamorros of the Pacific. My name is Susan Magofna. I'm from the island of Saipan and relocated over here in Albuquerque, New Mexico to make a difference. But no matter where I am, I will always remember where I'm from. It's nice to know that there are some Chamorros in different states who has alot of issues about our beautiful islands. Pure or half, no matter what, there's blood of Chamorro in you. So lets not all dismiss each other and throw your hands in the air for the chamorros back on the islands. You can make a difference of yourself but you can't change the culture in you because you are born and raised islanderz. All the Chamorros of the Pacific, open the rhythm of your heart and express the deep affection of the pulsing emotions of your heart. Missing the beauty of the islands that you are and the boundless love that you bestow. Let the heart awaken to the profound nature of love and keep our culture alive for the next generation to share.
PEACE AND LOVE!!!!!

This is for K.D. Quitugua from CT. Regarding your last name, it is spelled the way a Spanish speaking person would have spelled it. This is because the Chamoru didn't have a written alphabet. Your name is made up of two parts, Qui and tugua. The Qui is equivalent to what would now be spelled as "ke" which means "about to, or attempt to do something" such as "kehatsa" which means "trying to lift or raise." The "tugua" has at least a couple of meanings. Tugua' means to knock something or someone down or it can mean to chop something with a swinging motion as in chopping overgrown shrubbery with a machete or other large blade. Tugua' is related to the word "tugong"
which means to rush at or tackle.

The most probable history of your name would be during the time of the Chamoru-Spanish conflicts. You will be glad to hear that your name has a warrior or freedom fighter connotation. Ketugua' means one who is attempting to overthrow or strike down.

Ai Adai! Why is it that all you guys want to do is talk smack about eachother. I like to visit this website to get caught up with events back home....not to hear all the negativity you guys are passing back and forth. For heavens sake, whenever someone asks me what nationality I am, I respond with "I am a Chamoru from the island of Guam" and I say it with PRIDE!! I am not fortunate enough to be able to move back home, but just be glad that you ARE lucky enough to be back HOME!! And how does it make our people look when "visitors" visit this site and think "there must be something wrong with these people" when it is really just you few. I am living Minnesota, USA and my grandmother was born (in 1940) and raised in Guam. I am looking for anyone that might have known her or her family. Her name before marriage was Martha Alflagua Quitugua. She lived in Piti, Guam. She had 3 children when she was in Agana (The first one died at birth, Scott Parker Jr. and Alice Parker). She met my grandfather (Scott Parker) when he was stationed there with the Navy. She also had 5 more children after she moved to the states. I know that she has one brother still in Guam (Tony Quitugua) and she has a sister and brother that live in Michigan, USA (Katherine and Bang). If you can help me out I would appreciate it very much. I would love to learn more about my family and my heritage. My cousin was also MISS GUAM once but I'm not sure what year it was. Her name is Yvonne Limptiago. If you know anyone in my family or anything about my family please ask them to email me. My name is Chada Parker. Also if you live in Guam and would like a penpal feel free to write to me. I would love to be able to write to someone in Guam or someone from Guam.

In response to the people looking for the chorizos in the green can; You can buy them online and have them shipped to you at this Guam-based link here: http://www.guam.net/home/kelmgeo/extras3.htm . But good lord, a can costs $39. And you know, canned meats like this and spam are probably the single most contributing factor to the epidemic of heart and weight problems among the chamorro population. :P

This rant is in response to the dumb*ss who posted that "you can't" spell Chamorro as Tsamoru. Who the hell says you can't? Just because you say you "dont remember ever seeing "ts" being put together"? (I presume you meant at the beginning of a word, otherwise that would just be too dumb to be believed.) Ever heard of the Japanese-origin word Tsunami, as in tidal wave? Or the Chinese surname Tse? Give me a friggin break. Obviously, that post really aggrivated me. I think the proposal to spell Chamorro "Tsamoru" was a good idea. Phonetic spellings would make it easy for non-Chamorros to pronounce our words correctly. It never made sense to me to use the European roman alphabet and yet pronounce written letters such as "y" like "dz".

As for reunification, perhaps there are still members of the older generations whose feathers get ruffled at the idea, but I don't know of anyone of the younger generations who would be stuffy enough to actually oppose it.

Hafa Adai!
My name is Sandra and I'm from the lovely Island of Saipan. I was browsing thru if I could find some "familias" here in New Mexico and it led me here: chamorro.com. I think this website is great! Especially for those who are away from home. This is as close as we can get to feel like we're at home. I'm missin' the chow, the Cha Cha reggae beat, the beach, and the familias. And all my love goes out to my families back home..The Palacios, the Sablan's, the Magofna's (in Tanapag), and the familian Talu's of As Gonno. I miss u all!!
And thanks to whoever designed this website!Everything is great and it's a great out reach. And for those who are far from home, like Justin says: "U can take the boy/girl from the Island, but not the Island from the boy/girl, 'coz the Island stays in ur heart, and NEVER 4GET where u COME FROM!!
So all my love goes out to you Chamorru's and keep the love flowing thru in here.

Regarding the "Charisos Espaniot" in the green can. I was in Washington until February of 2002 and it is sold in the McChord Air Force Base commissary. The only thing is that it goes really fast. This is for Lise in Seattle in regards to the Marca El Rey Chorizos. They sell them at either the Army or Air Force Commissaries in Washington. That is where we usually get them from. They have it here in Southern Cal but it runs pretty high for a can. Hope you know someone in that area that can get it for you. Good Luck.

To Lise in Seattle:

Those sausages are still in existence. But I'm not sure if they are here in Washington. I live in Vancouver and my Mom all the way on Guam sends a can or two every once in a while. So I'm positively sure that they are available in some stores on Guam. The sausages are a favorite to the family, that's why we don't mind the expensive shipping costs...

-If you know anyone on Guam, I'm sure they'll be able to find it in one of them fine supermarkets, like Payless.

I'm tired of the latest discussion. What I'd like to know is what people tell their kids when the kids want to know what a Chamorro is? Annd what kind of things you're actually doing to keep them true to our heritage. I don't do as much as I should, but I feed them lots of that great food, especially keleguin and kadun manuk and potu. And I tell them about growing up with 34 first cousins around, six of them my exact age, and the never ending rosaries, and the aunties who sat at them and whipsered about seeing the crying statue of Mary on Liberation day. And I show them how to grind the coconuts, or cook ahu and we look at the many hermit crab and other shells I gathered on the beach in Saipan (or was it Tinian?). And sometimes, if it doesn't make me feel like crying, I tell them I heard the stories of the occupation and how some people never really got their property back, and how they kept it all together somehow.

What do you hear or tell?

Lottie - Bay Area

Come on people! Let's stop all the negative thoughts and concentrate on more important issues that will benefit our kids when they grow up. We are one of a kind that's why we are how we are! Nobody's fault. We're a special breed of people that others want to be part of. Let's be proud all together and make our homes a better place for everyone. You know our culture is just about 100% Catholic so let's act us brother's and sister's to all walks of life. We are PROUD Chamorro's! It doesn't matter where we are at in this world, we as Chamorro's are always together, maybe there's some times where we don't communicate the same but that's again the Chamorro way! We can't be all that perfect because we are not. So let's all take a minute and ask God for his guidiance and pray that we stay as what our parents had taught us to be. I just thought of dropping in some good points and words on why we are so special than others. Keep the faith and always remember that what we say to one another either good or bad, God hears us and that is the most important thing we should be more concerned than material......

A Chamorro that understand ALL Chamorro's.

Thanks for you comments CHAMORRO LAI - STATE!

The feud is over... as far as I'm concerned... that's why I apologized to everyone.

Of course we're happy of being who we are. Without disagreeing with each other on certain subjects though, this world wouldn't be turning. Our "feud" is all whether Carolinians really deserve owning land in the CNMI, it never had anything to do with being pure or not pure Chamorros until he brought up my being "gupalao", which isn't offensive at all. I just needed to "correct" him. Everyone knows we're all just "part" of the natibu.

Anyway, this is all just for clarification purposes. Adios yan Buenas ginen todus ham guini Vancouver, WA.
