i would really like to share a couple of points. i have lived on guam all my life "33 years". first i want to point out is our language and nationality. guamanian is our nationality and yes a little spanish looking, chamorro is our language and yes we do speak spanish like too. people on guam, saipan, rota, and tinian speak chamorro. so we are guamanians, saipanese, rotanese, and tinian now called "luta". so before you go and start laying out the facts of saipan from guam, think first. ya we all speak "chamorro"or "chamoru", which ever way you chose to spell it. we people from the island of guam live in a enviroment which thought us how to live in a western like place, that is why we can actually go anywhere in the u.s. because of our english. guam is part of the united states. i know we are not a state, but a territory of the u.s. so we have demands for english as our primary, then when we get home we will learn from our parents the chamorro language. believe it or not be we learn respect with that also. guam is a very repected area for all who has moved on with there life in the mainland. all i am saying is be proud for who you are inside and pay no attention to others who think little of you. i do not see anything wrong with people of guam have to say, we as guamanians know how life is without your family being there and we are here. it is the memory that brings us closer to the islands. so don't be talking how is saipan is full or pure chamorro because i know what saipanese means. this is my opinion, take and we love you guam

Okay people. Lets all get it straight. There are no pure whatevers. Not even the dogs that are being bred are pure. They all have a mix of something... There are no "Pure Chamorros" both on Guam and Saipan. I really don't know where our sister got the notion that there are still some pure Chamorros in Saipan or out there for that matter. My dear, there are no more pure Chamorros. Do a little research out there and you will see. Look into your family history and you'll see that you have some other blood running through your body. We all want to be pure something. Its better to be part of something or some race than to be nothing at all.
The Language is still very strong out there in Saipan and I advise you and your fellow citizens to keep the traditions and culture alive. I take trips to Saipan, just to get away from the busy and hectic Guam. Guam is so into the Western culture that we have lost our vision and maybe even ourselves... Saipan is beautiful. Do all you can to keep it that way. I plan on taking a trip there this year. Si Yu'u Ma'ase

OKAY OKAY....CALM DOWN PEOPLE....I JUST WANT TO MAKE ONE THING OBVIOUS....THE ONLY PEOPLE ON THIS WEBSITE THAT SEEM TO BE TALKING SMACK ABOUT ANYTHING BEING SAID IS THE SO-CALLED "CHAMORROS FROM GUAM." ONE THING THAT'S FOR SURE ABOUT THE LANGUAGE...GUAM AND SAIPAN CHAMORRO IS VERY VERY VERY DIFFERENT...THANK GOD! GUAM CHAMORRO IS ALL COMPLEX...SAIPAN CHAMORRO IS SIMPLE AND TO THE POINT....JUST THE WAY I LIKE IT.

TO THE LOCAL BOY FROM GUAM....THERE AREN'T ANY MORE "PURE CHAMORROS" IN GUAM, YOU SAID IT YOURSELF...BUT THERE ARE LOTS OF "PURE CHAMORROS" FROM SAIPAN....I'M ONE OF THE MANY PURE CHAMORROS FROM SAIPAN AND PROUD THAT SAIPAN STILL HAS MANY....PEACE.

Kenny V., you are either an idiot or extremely conceited. You come onto this site claiming Chamoru hertiage and then procede to critisize in a derogatory manner the people you claim to be a part of. I think your attempt to make a distinction between Wash. D.C. and Wash. State is a cheap attemp to impress. Aside from the capital grounds D.C. is near the bottom of my choices to live (high crime, dirty, all the good stuff people look for in a place to live). Do you really believe the politicians/maggots that work there live there? Sorry, I don't like politicians. Get your head together and out of your ass young man...no mature Chamoru would be as brash in making the statements you've made in a face2face discussion. If you care not to be known as having Chamoru heritage that is your choice but respect those that take pride in their ethnicity. What do you put down when asked about ethnicity? You critisized the free education available to the Chamoru people. What's the difference between that and what's available on the mainland? You need to develope more brain cells or bring into play additional cells because you obviously aren't using many right now. We could go on and on but what would be the point? You came onto this site to either stir up trouble, some sicko's take pleasure in that, or express your view points. Be glad that you are able to do that with protection from the constitution. Enjoy your life in D.C. but if you have nothing to contribute to our people then stay away or keep silent. In Australia, the aboriginies outcast members of their tribe for the grossest offense. Yes, they do have a set of laws that are tens of thousands of years old and it was handed down as part of their culture and traditions. Something you may know nothing about with the Chamoru culture. Take care Kenny, maybe you'll grow up to be somebody someday.

This just brings back memories of the entry made by "Dave" back around May or June 2001. This guy does not have a clue on anything that he is saying. I refuse to entertain anyone like that. The only thing I would like to remind "Washington D.C" is to remember where you came from boy. If it wasn't for Chamorro-Pride, American Chamorro people like you would not be where you are at now. Remember that no matter what you do boy, you will alway be a Chamorro. I would like you to take a test for me. Go up to the next Black-American or African-American you see and tell him that there is no such thing as an African-American. Write to the Chamorro Graffiti site and let me know what the outcome is, even if you have to type your comments out with one hand and one eye... You and Dave should get together and form you own group, let's say the "I don't want to be a Chamorro" group. Hey, I'll support you all the way boy...just so that you won't come here (to Guam) where the true people live out their lives... Adios yan Good Riddance.....
Para Todos in may Chamorro.....Biba..

Well, well, well, Mr. Kenny Villagomez, it seems your prayers were answered. You prayed for some intelligent responses and you sure got them. I couln't have said it better than Aunty M from Arizona. She hit the bulls-eye. You have shown your true ignorance in proclaiming to be more intelligent than the rest. What is disheartening is how wrong you are my friend. The Chamoru are some of the proudest Americans there are. In Vietnam, Guam sent and lost the most per capita by far than any other venue in the United States.

The social ills that you claim Guam and the rest of the Marianas are plagued with are present everywhere in the U.S. As a matter of fact, it is present in the Marianas because of the "American way of life." You can't honestly fault a people and culture that were self sufficient for thousands of years without these social ills for being adversely affected when the new western culture was forced upon them. The very Americanism that you claim we lack is the very reason we suffer the social ills you fault us for. So you see my friend it is not we whom are ignorant it is you.

I am an extremely proud Chamoru and fiercely proud American. I know and understand my heritage as a Chamoru and as an American. I am passionate about the Chamoru culture and language. The Chamoru values and beliefs. Proud that unlike other cultures that were once colonized by the Spanish, our language survived and it was not replaced by the Spanish language. It shows the risilience and determination of our people to exist and flourish.

Do you know the history of America? Do you know the atrocities that have occurred over the years of that American history? I am both proud of my American heritage and yet saddened, appalled, and even disgusted at some of the former policies and actions of our American government and people.

Mr. Villagomez you must be either quite young and foolish, or ignorant and close-minded. There's no hiding it my friend it truly shows.

Your attitude reminds me of some Chamoru sayings I've heard:

"i lokkue na mina'tapang hao!"

"mampos un na' annok hao na dache'!"

"maolekña hao ti mafañagu!"

"maloffan hao ki kaksaka!"

Hi, my name is Ken Villagomez. I'm one smart ass-hole, let me tell you. As a matter of fact, I'm so smart, the rest of the world couldn't match me. Yeah, that's me. And because I'm so smart, I feel the need to point out the stupidity of other people. Moreoever, doing this enriches my soul. It makes me feel like such a big, big man with an even bigger heart. And when God was handing out grace and humility, why I was the first in line, and let me tell you, I'm really, really humble too. Oh boy, let me tell you. No, let me shout it to the rest of the universe. I'm one smart prick. Excuse me while I vomit here Kenny boy. You need a good whoop in the ass son.

Ken Villagomez. How more chamorro do you get? This Kid is a lost soul. In his sick mind he chooses to demean the very people and island were he came from as dumb and stupid.. That in my eyes is a very lost, lost soul.. A person who denies or at least tries to place himself in a category higher than anyone eles is a person with low self worth.
Instead of attacking your very own people, why don't you educate and enlighten us Mr. Villagomez... Let's see the knowledge you have on your people and the many struggles that we all have suffered.
Let me tell you something, Mr. Villagomez, most of today's "AMERICANS" are not the original inhabitants of that very Great Country that you live in (Go Figure). I will close and wait for your response. I, the Chamorro, who does know the difference between Washington D.C and Washinton State. I wonder how much you know about the very place you claim to be from.....Adios

Kenny, Americans have always been especially proud of our melting pot heritage; diversity is what makes us unique, and tolerance is what makes us strong. You, however, make a lousy American, and an equally poor excuse for a Chamorro.

Dear Kenny,

What's your problem? Why are you being such a jerk? You're really full of yourself aren't you. We obviously failed to raise you in a loving and nurturing environment and, as a Chamorro, I'm very ashamed of you.

Ken Villagomez: Good for you - you're an American. You're obviously not a Chamorro anymore if you value your US passport over your heritage and take pride in acting like Jerry Springer. Chamorro's have respect for others and themselves. Try it sometime. Tai mamalao i ti mamalao!

Hello. My name is Ken Villagomez, and I currently live in Washington, DC... not the state, as so many of you who conned free CNMI education still do but DC. I am appalled by two things that I find in the entries to this site.

First of all, Chamorro pride is a fraudulent construct, especially when linked with the notion of "Chamorro-American." Let me be clear. We are all Americans, pure and simple. Such ideas as Chamorro-American, African-American, Italian-American and so on are artificial distinctions. You, I, we are first and foremost AMERICANS. We cannot afford divided or separate loyalties in this contentious world. Do you get it?

Second, I am disgusted with the poor quality of writing displayed by contributors to this site who purport to be "educated." That free education you scammed from the CNMI and didn't really devote yourself to (admit it, you didn't), has apparently been a waste. Imagine that. Who would have thought that something given for free is generally less valued than something earned? Most of you are lazy, freeloading, non-contributing members of a dying society of illegitimate births and criminal abuse of the cheap labor you use to enrich yourselves. I am a Chamorro and am not proud to be associated with the likes of most of those whom I meet here from the CNMI or Guam.

So why do I bother to write to the site? Maybe, just maybe, one or another of you will understand my points and will change your impoverished attitude. I do hope so. Hafa Adai. KVG

Hi GuruSays,
I couldn't agree with you more. I was in Guam 2 yrs after Karen, just before I got married. I remmber all the "I survived..." t-shirts at the time but what was most memorable was the quietness (no insect) noises at night. That was sobering. I was visiting an Uncle who lived in Dededo and was surprised because his "new" house was constructed of reinforced concrete. He had power and phone communication--sometimes. Emergency communications to the US mainland had to be arranged with the Navy base. I guess he was one of the lucky ones...my Tata's house was the old style wood/tin roof and it didn't do so well. Anyway, I guess Guam has just elected a new governor and he seems to want to bring about reform (hopefully for the best). As you say only time will tell but the people need help today. Nice talking to you and thanks to our website hosts for providing a means for this type of communication. Islandroot.

Hi again islandroot,

I was in Guam as a child during Typhoon Karen, one of the first in the long line of seemingly endless "Super Typhoons" that has hit Guam in recent memory.

What I remember is the assistance that the Red Cross and the military rendered Guam immediately afterwards. I remember the centers where you could pick up food and water and tents. We didn’t have running water nor power for a long time afterwards, but those were to be expected and endured. We also had to “double-up” at the newer local high schools, since the old quonset hutted schools didn’t survive.

Then as now, Guam and its people do fine with the assistance of those who always come through in emergencies, like the Red Cross and the military – and now, Fema.

The people of Guam today will pull through as they’ve always done. What's different this time is that there are root organizations here who are raising private funds for their friends and relatives back home. One such precedes this message.

As for Guam's government, I would only say that the people do well in spite of its government. The government will continue to go its merry wasteful ways.

The more things change, the more they remain the same....
